Just one "Long Lasting" gripe I have with these type of ads, Why would you want your competitors links on your site?

Don't know how your site is set up, but on mine there are several different links pages with sites listed that don't compete with mine. For example, if I sell widgets my links pages might have sites listed that sell doo-dads, thing-a-majigs, and assorted bliffs. I stick the AdSense code on those pages and hope for lots of clicks.

I think he means often you have competitors ads showing on your website through adsense. The way around that of course is to use the competitive ad filter, it works :)

We have merchants that do the same thing.

If you build a site to sell something for you, why give the visitor an easy exit to possibly buy something similar for less and never return, and you only get a few cents from the clickthrough?

i would not place adsense on a page where i sell someting. adsense is good for mixed pages like a web directory, blog or info sites to get some cash back. but sometimes it's good to give the visitor a link to leave your site because of untargeted traffic. they can chosse some interesting for them if your site don't show what they want. competitors pro & con but better a click on adsense as the click on the little cross to close the page.

Nice article. Regarding the adsense stuff: If there's one thing useful about it, it's that it tells you who your competitors are and you can browse their web pages and check out their offer. Then you can make your own offer better than theirs.

Once you've done that, you can get your clicks on adsense and the visitors will still come back and probably give you another click, until they choose to buy YOUR stuff.

In conclusion: you get click money, you "humiliate" your competitors and you also get to sell your products/services. So the next time you type www.google.com, just think of all the wonderful things that little textbox and search button can do.

Good article, although a little basic. I've found that experimenting with the page layout and with different Google AdSense ad sizes you can increment your click rate.

It's also good to research what keywords pay higher per click and create content that will attract those kinds of ads.

To my opinion, it's better to get a few high paying clicks a day than many .01 cent clicks.

It depends on what kind of sites you have.  Some sites are very easy to gain traffic but are low paying in terms of clicks while others, only a few visitors can already earn you up to $5-$10 a click.

$5 to $10 per click? That's amazing...
I like affiliate,not CPC.
But if $5 per click....
