Link exchange is very old method used to build links. Still it can be used to get quality and relevant links. Most webmasters use this method to get high PR links to their site.
Also link exchange has its disadvantages. If our link partner is a link farm or banned site we may get penalize for link exchange.
So link exchange decision should be taken carefully.

Well, we should not use the link exchange because Google didn't prefer it as Google prefer only on-way link building so rather than going for any other link building type, we should only go for the one-way link building so that we can get good results in the SERP's of the Google search engine...

Reciprocal lonks are not worth much anymore, and while there are services that charge to do it, I don't think it is worth it.

no benifit of any reciprocal links but google i maintaining each page ranking indivisualy so if i ur out bond link is from your internal page and u are geting link to your home page so that is not reciprocal.

Be careful what sites you send links to as well. I can�t prove this, but it make sense to me if your site is seen sending a lot of links to sites that are prime candidates for search engine penalties (for whatever reasons), you might suck up some of the penalty too. This is especially important for you bloggers selling text links � I make this mistake myself � check every site that buys a link from your blog to see what you are endorsing.
