Welcome to the New Merchant Accounts section!

I'm Bob Bryant, Internet Developer and eCommerce Mentor, working with eMerchant, Inc. http://www.emerchantdiscount.com .

I'll be moderating this section and some others on the forums, and welcome the chance to get to know you.

eMerchant serves some of the largest online businesses, providing Discounted Credit Card processing, Payment Gateways, Check Programs, and related services to Internet as well as Brick and Mortar Merchants.

I am fairly new to web design and have a client who is after a e-commerce site.  Not knowing too much regarding this, is there anyplace you can suggest me to start.  The client wants to meet in the next few days, so I have to have a good uderstanding by then  What do you suggest

There are many different areas you might want to cover with your client in regard to accepting credit cards, preventing fraud, card types to accept, etc...

I could go for pages.....

Give me an idea what they sell and I can be very specific, but in general they will need a secure gateway for their credit card data and a good SSL Cert if you are hosting them on a private server not enabled for commerce.

Also, where they sell and the currencies they need to convert to and from have a bearing on what cards to accept and the rates and fees associated with same.

In sum . the ecommerce process works like this...

Customer Places order in SSL Encrypted Cart

Cart Passes Card Info to Payment Gateway where Card is then Authrized or Declined and AVS (Billing Address Verification) is return to further enable fraud checking.

Merchant receives Auth or Decline, does fraud check based on AVS and other signs, prepares order for shipping, then charges (captures) sale, changing it from an Authorization to a Capture, and the funds appear in your merchants bank account in two days or so ... (Some processors take longer to deposit)

I have created the buttons in my paypal account. I then copy and paste them into myspace page in the band members section. The button shows up, but when I click on it the link does not go to paypal. I get a message saying it is 'broken'. How can I get these buttons to work in myspace?
