Thanks for sharing these tips with us.

I was browsing online yesterday and looking at some posts on one of my favorite blogs. I got to clicking links and ended up reading about an ebook on how to create and sell ebooks successfully. The whole premise was that you need to find a niche of desperate, compulsive buyers and create exactly what they will feel compelled to buy because they are so desperate for some fix or solution etc. to their problem(s).

It made sense from a marketing standpoint, but where do you draw the line between marketing and having a conscience?

I think if you are marketing a small business, the most important thing is to put yourself in the shoes of your prospective customers, and understand the benefits from THEIR side. Respect their time. Give them good information. And if your business depends on repeat business or good word of mouth, then be sure that you are giving them the straight scoop! While some strategies drive short term sales, they may actually be bad for your business over the longer haul.

A marketing strategy[1] [2] is a process that can allow an organization to concentrate its limited resources on the greatest opportunities to increase sales and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage[3]. A marketing strategy should be centred around the key concept that customer satisfaction is the main goal.

A marketing strategy is most effective when it is an integral component of corporate strategy, defining how the organization will successfully engage customers, prospects, and competitors in the market arena. corporate strategies, corporate missions, and corporate goals. As the customer constitutes the source of a company's revenue, marketing strategy is closely linked with sales. A key component of marketing strategy is often to keep marketing in line with a company's overarching mission statement[4].

Basic theory: 1) Target Audience 2) Proposition/Key Element 3) Implementation

 Sectorial tactics and actions

A marketing strategy can serve as the foundation of a marketing plan. A marketing plan contains a set of specific actions required to successfully implement a marketing strategy. For example: "Use a low cost product to attract consumers. Once our organization, via our low cost product, has established a relationship with consumers, our organization will sell additional, higher-margin products and services that enhance the consumer's interaction with the low-cost product or service."

A strategy consists of a well thought out series of tactics to make a marketing plan more effective. Marketing strategies serve as the fundamental underpinning of marketing plans designed to fill market needs and reach marketing objectives[5]. Plans and objectives are generally tested for measurable results.

A marketing strategy often integrates an organization's marketing goals, policies, and action sequences (tactics) into a cohesive whole. Similarly, the various strands of the strategy , which might include advertising, channel marketing, internet marketing, promotion and public relations can be orchestrated. Many companies cascade a strategy throughout an organization, by creating strategy tactics that then become strategy goals for the next level or group. Each one group is expected to take that strategy goal and develop a set of tactics to achieve that goal. This is why it is important to make each strategy goal measurable.

Marketing strategies are dynamic and interactive. They are partially planned and partially unplanned. See strategy dynamics.

Marketing strategies may differ depending on the unique situation of the individual business. However there are a number of ways of categorizing some generic strategies. A brief description of the most common categorizing schemes is presented below:

    * Strategies based on market dominance - In this scheme, firms are classified based on their market share or dominance of an industry. Typically there are three types of market dominance strategies:
          o Leader
          o Challenger
          o Follower
    * Porter generic strategies - strategy on the dimensions of strategic scope and strategic strength. Strategic scope refers to the market penetration while strategic strength refers to the firm�s sustainable competitive advantage.
          o Product differentiation
          o Market segmentation
    * Innovation strategies - This deals with the firm's rate of the new product development and business model innovation. It asks whether the company is on the cutting edge of technology and business innovation. There are three types:
          o Pioneers
          o Close followers
          o Late followers
    * Growth strategies - In this scheme we ask the question, �How should the firm grow?�. There are a number of different ways of answering that question, but the most common gives four answers:
          o Horizontal integration
          o Vertical integration
          o Diversification
          o Intensification

    A more detailed scheme uses the categories:

        * Prospector
        * Analyzer
        * Defender
        * Reactor

    * Marketing warfare strategies - This scheme draws parallels between marketing strategies and military strategies.

^I find that the YouTube referrals work well. Not for selling my own products, I haven't made videos yet, but for getting me to go to another person's website. When I spend time finishing a video all the way through, it's usually because I find some value in the video, and so it's natural for me to want to learn more about the creator. I've noticed in the past times I've watched a video, I've been eager to visit the source site.

Yeah, I agree that you have to put yourself in your customers' shoes every now and then. It's the only way to get the perspective that you need to be effective. You need to learn how to feel their pain, and then provide the antidote or solution to their problems. The better you can do that, the better off you are.

Exactly, there is no fix or magic formula in any business whether it is online or offline. You have to find your way what works for you or what doesn't.

Picking your product is crucial key whether it its your own or you are promoting someone's other.  Just research enough about your product.  see what are the pros and cons and then decide whether it is profitable enough to promote.

and for online marketing just remember "MONEY IS IN THE LIST".  So try to build your own list.

  • How well educated are they likely to be?
  • What's their spending power?
  • Would a woman be more susceptible than a man?
  • How can I contact them?
  • What price will they pay?
  • How can I explain the benefits in a way that they'll appreciate?
  • Does it do what they need?
  • How long will it take to sell it to them?
  • How can I generate fresh orders from appreciative customers?
  • Can I repeat sales?
  • How many sales might this generate?

If you can understand why these questions are being asked then you are on the road to success.

Promotion


Moving on to promotion, before we can promote your product we need to answer some more questions:
  • Does my site or service provide a need to exist?
  • What are the product's real advantages?
  • Who are potentia core buyers?
  • How do you get in touch with them?
  • What is the optimum market price range?
  • How should the product be branded?
  • Is the product marketable?
  • What is everyone else in this area of the market doing?

Taking Action


Now that we have established how plan of action lets get to it.
Start by using very cost effective ways of advertising such as:
  • Forums who allow advertising
  • Mailing lists that you have created. Stay away from opt in list but instead create a free promotional product to give away.
  • Create content heavy pages for search engines to pickup
  • Use signatures in all forum posts
  • Create useful information and do not try to push the sale on your potential customers

Now lets look at spending some money:
  • Google Adwords is always a plus but be careful! You do not want to use broad keywords and simply spend money bringing useless visitors.
  • Overture PPC, same rules apply as Google Adwords
  • Stay away form the smaller PPC programs. They simply do not work
  • Take out ads in local papers. The word of mouth is one of the strongest advertising tools.
  • DO NOT use submission services. Most search engines HATE this. The fact is if you create content heavy pages the engines will find YOU.
  • Taking out an Ad on MSN. This can get pricey but it does have good results.

Lets face the fact that it is a cold world and everyone is out to make a buck. The fact is a lot of companies are simply scam artists. Particularly the "Cheap Traffic" scams. They claim to sell you "targeted" hits for cheap prices. They then proceed to send you 404, popunder, or popup traffic. This traffic will NEVER yield a result and your money is better spent else where. You need to drive your own traffic, there is no shortcuts in this game. Building link popularity and traffic trades are still effective ways to increase PR and visitors, so stick to these methods instead.

Stand Behind Your Product


Customer service & tech support can go a very long way. In today's society everyone needs to be helped along. Having a solid foundation of "good support" will keep your customers coming back but more importantly we keep them happy & satisfied. This should be your #1 goal when creating a product or service to be sold. Answering questions quickly effectively has no price tag on it. It simply is your golden key.
